Rigging - ICE Level 2 (International Rigging)

Rigging

Level 2 - International Competence: Engineering-Construction (Red Card)

  OCCUPATION PROFILE – RIGGING

The occupation of Rigging refers to the lifting, moving and positioning of extremely large or heavy objects which are beyond the reasonable scope of manual handling and outside the reach of material handling equipment.

Due to the specialised and dangerous nature of the work involved the profession of Rigger requires extensive training both at a dedicated instructional centre and then through a period of consolidation in a workplace environment. The complexity of many rigging operations necessitates the need for teams of riggers to work cohesively in order to successfully and safely complete the load movement activities.

Given the hazardous nature of operations, participants in rigging teams place significant trust in their colleagues. This requires all Riggers to maintain a high level of knowledge and competency to ensure that operations are professionally and safely executed.

  INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCE: ENGINEERING-CONSTRUCTION (ICE) SCHEME

ICE Validates knowledge and skills against ECITB Standards ensuring people working in the engineering-construction industries are technically competent. ICE recognises the importance of continuous training/assessment through the ICE renewal process.

The ICE Level 2 Framework defines the skills and job knowledge required to work in an Engineering-Construction environment.

ICE Level 2At ECITB ICE level 2 the individual is typically tasked with simple rigging activities such as;

• Prepare loads for lifting and positioning under supervision.
• Lifting and positioning simple loads in engineering construction.
• Moving engineering construction loads under supervision.

All rigging activities at this level will be simple, routine and in accordance with the approved lift plans and all other relevant international/approved standards. Additionally all tasking and subsequent activities will be performed under the supervision of a suitably qualified and experienced person.
