Installing and Commissioning Flow Measurement Systems

The selected Ultra Sonic Flow Meter must be of a similar specification and complexity of construction to that of the example show. The Flow Meter must utilise none intrusive double traverse transducers fixed to the pipe-work with vendor supplied clamps.

The Examiner should provide the candidate with all the necessary commissioning equipment as if supplied direct from the manufacturer. This should include commissioning materials, tools and Installation and Commissioning Vendor Manuals.

The Examiner must provide a suitable location to fit the Flow Meter in line with Vendor specifications. This pipe-work must be in an operational condition with a known and measurable flow to ensure that the candidate has set up the flow meter to an operational condition and within +/- 1.0%.

The Examiner may choose to utilise a previously commissioned None Intrusive Portable Flow Meter (see example) to measure compliance of the candidate’s calibration of the Flow Meter.

Technical Assessment – The purpose of the test is to install and commission an Ultra-Sonic Flow Meter to an operational condition. The work must include the installation and alignment of “double traverse” transducers and hook up to a flow transmitter. Work MUST include a function check of the flow transmitter using a suitable medium. The Examiner will check for compliance at the conclusion on the commissioning.

Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to install, reconfigure, calibrate and function check the flow meter. The candidate will have to demonstrate they can work safely throughout the work scope and complete the appropriate documentation to the required standard.

The Examiner will give the candidate the information that will needed to carry out the installation and commissioning of the flow meter. This will include pipe specification and characteristics.

The candidate is expected to complete the test whilst being observed using correct the correct tools, equipment, service supplies and established techniques, to achieve the specification. The activity must be completed using safe working practices to achieve a „PASS‟. Where the candidate does not achieve the set criteria this is recorded as „REFERRED‟ and a brief note recorded on the criteria not met in the test activity.
Calibration MUST be within +/- 1.0%.

The candidate must record a PASS in all practical test sections and score a minimum of 80% in the multiple choice section.
