Installing Alarm Systems
The selected equipment for the test should be similar to the examples shown. The circuit is required to be a fire alarm circuit fed from a dedicated supply and comprising 2 zones of detection with call points and sounder circuit.
The Examiner will provide the candidate with the supplied Electrical Test Record (ETR 03)
The Examiner should make available a range Fire detection equipment and cabling accessories from which the Candidate will need to select appropriate ones that are fit for purpose to install the alarm system .The Examiner should make available a range of Test equipment from which the candidate will select the appropriate ones.

Technical Assessment – The candidate is required to install a fire alarm circuit to include a sounder, break glass units and two zones of detection, on completion the candidate is to test and function check. All work to comply with the regulations.
Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to install and terminate fire alarm circuit including sounder, break glass units and zoned automatic detection and carry out testing and function checking, all work to comply with the regulations and recognised industry practices.

The candidate must install the fire alarm circuit to include a minimum of one smoke detector and one heat detector the circuit shall be divided into two zones. The designed test area must have good lighting and be away from any production area. The Examiner must ensure that the candidates has completed the installation and tests to specification and following established working practice.
The Examiner must supply the necessary equipment required for the installation a drawing shall be provided by the examiner a, the candidate is expected to arrange the termination of the circuit following recognised industry practices.
The candidate is expected to complete the test, being observed using correct installation, termination, testing and function checking techniques, to produce alarm circuit and apply safe working practices to achieve a ‘PASS’. Where the candidate does not achieve the set criteria this is recorded as ‘REFERRED’ and a brief note recorded on the criteria not met in the test activity.
The candidate must record a PASS in all practical test sections and score a minimum of 80% in the multiple choice section.
