The selected Circuit protective devices to be used for this test are to be both single and three phase and of similar specification to those shown. A distribution board legend is to be provided showing all characteristics of each outgoing circuit to enable the candidate to make his circuit protective device selection for the purpose of this test.

The Examiner will provide the candidate with the Distribution board legend.

The Examiner should make available a range of circuit protective devices from which the Candidate will need to select appropriate ones that are fit for purpose to provide the correct disconnection time for each circuit The Examiner should make available a range of Test equipment from which the candidate will select the appropriate ones.

Electrical Installation-Installing Circuit Protective Devices

Technical Assessment – The candidate is required to install circuit protective devices to a three Phase distribution board, each circuit protective device is to be appropriate for the circuit it is protecting. The distribution board shall contain various circuits for differing loads including three phase and single phase circuits. The Candidate is to ensure all work complies with the regulations.

Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to select and install circuit protective devices to suit the characteristics of the circuit they are to protect, all work to comply with the regulations and recognised industry practices.

The candidate must install the circuit protective devices to the Three Phase distribution board selecting the appropriate device for each given circuit according to the distribution bard legend. The distribution board shall be three phase and will contain single and three phase circuits. The designed test area must have good lighting and be away from any production area. The Examiner must ensure that the candidates has completed the installation and tests to specification and following established working practice.

The Examiner must supply the necessary equipment required for the installation no drawing shall be provided by the examiner other than a simple Distribution board legend, the candidate is expected to arrange the installation of the appropriate circuit protective devices according to the distribution board legend following recognised industry practices.

The candidate is expected to complete the test, being observed selecting the correct Circuit protective device for each circuit designated on the distribution board legend and use correct installation, termination, testing and function checking techniques, to ensure each device is appropriate to its load and apply safe working practices to achieve a ‘PASS’. Where the candidate does not achieve the set criteria this is recorded as ‘REFERRED’ and a brief note recorded on the criteria not met in the test activity.

The candidate must record a PASS in all practical test sections and score a minimum of 80% in the multiple choice section.
