Installing Earthing Equipment

Electrical Installation –Installing Earthing Equipment
The selected equipment for the test should be similar to the examples shown. The cables for the supplies are to have no internal earth core and should rely on the cable armour for earthing.
The Examiner will provide the candidate with the supplied Electrical Test Record (ETR13)
The Examiner should make available a range cable earthing accessories, earth cable and crimp lugs from which the Candidate will need to select appropriate ones that are fit for purpose to earth the installation. The Examiner should make available a range of Test equipment from which the candidate will select the appropriate ones.
Technical Assessment – The candidate is required to install an earthing arrangement to a GRP or similar non- metallic Distribution board to which the Incoming supply and 2 outgoing circuits are supplied with PVC SWA PVC cables and glands. Once the earthing is completed the candidate will carry out Earth loop impedance tests on the cables.
Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to install and terminate an earthing arrangement to a GRP or similar non-metallic distribution board fed with an PVC SWA PVC cable and having 3 outgoing circuits supplied with PVC SWA PVC cables and carry out earth loop impedance testing on the 4 cables, all work to comply with the regulations and recognised industry practices.
Practical Test – To install an earthing arrangement to a GRP or similar non-metallic Distribution board to which the Incoming supply and 2 outgoing circuits are supplied with PVC SWA PVC cables and glands. Once the earthing is completed the candidate will carry out Earth loop impedance tests on the cables.
Follow the stages indicated below -
1. Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
2. Prepare the work areas so that they are ready for the engineering activities to be carried out
3. Obtain all the required equipment and ensure that it is in safe and usable condition
4. Obtain the required materials and check them for quantity and quality
5. Carry out the preparations using suitable equipment
6. Work within a safe system of work and identify any foreseeable hazards relating to the connection of wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
7. Accurately identify the means of electrical isolation prior to connection
8. Carry out isolation procedures when required, to ensure a safe connection in accordance with electrical regulations and approved procedures
9. Make connections in accordance with specifications and comply with wiring regulations as specified in the most recent local standards for electrical installations
10. Check the connections are electrically and mechanically sound, and ensure that they are identified correctly and clearly
11. Take safe and sensible action, where appropriate to remedy any identified defects after connection has taken place
12. Complete any necessary documentation about the work legibly, accurately and timely in accordance with organisational requirements.
13. Confirm that his/her test instruments are: appropriate to the job in hand, fit for purpose and in calibration
14. Conduct an inspection in accordance with the wiring regulations in the local standards for electrical installations
15. Conduct the required tests in accordance with wiring regulations as specified in the most recent local standards for electrical installations and in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions
16. Prepare a formal record of testing which confirms the safety and integrity of the installation, in accordance with organisational procedures andwiring regulations as specified in the local standards for electrical installations
17. Separate equipment, components, and materials for reuse from waste items and materials
18. Dispose of waste materials in line with organisational and environmental safe procedures
19. Restore the work areas to a safe condition in accordance with agreed requirements and schedules
