Electrical Installation-Installing Lighting Equipment

The selected equipment for the test should be similar to the examples shown. The circuit is required to be a lighting circuit fed from a distribution board and is to have Two Way and intermediate switching.

The Examiner will provide the candidate with the supplied Electrical Test Record (ETR10)
The Examiner should make available a range light fittings, switches, cable and accessories from which the Candidate will need to select appropriate ones that are fit for purpose to wire the lighting accessories. The Examiner should make available a range of Test equipment from which the candidate will select the appropriate ones.

Technical Assessment – The candidate is required to install a two way and intermediate lighting circuit, test and function check. All work to comply with the regulations.

Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to install and terminate a two way and intermediate lighting circuit and carry out testing and function checking, all work to comply with the regulations and recognised industry practices.

The candidate must install the lighting circuit to include a minimum of one light fitting controlled by a two way and intermediate switching arrangement. The designed test area must have good lighting and be away from any production area. The Examiner must ensure that the candidates has completed the installation and tests to specification and following established working practice.

The Examiner must supply the necessary equipment required for the installation no drawing shall be provided by the examiner other than a simple layout drawing, the candidate is expected to arrange the termination of the circuit following recognised industry practices.

The candidate is expected to complete the test, being observed using correct installation, termination, testing and function checking techniques, to produce the two way and intermediate switching arrangement for the lighting circuit and apply safe working practices to achieve a ‘PASS’. Where the candidate does not achieve the set criteria this is recorded as ‘REFERRED’ and a brief note recorded on the criteria not met in the test activity.

The candidate must record a PASS in all practical test sections and score a minimum of 80% in the multiple choice section.
