INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL TESTS

Technical Assessment – The candidate is required to install a lighting circuit to include Maintained and Non-maintained Emergency light fittings. On completion the candidate is to test and function check. All work to comply with the regulations.

Objective - To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to install and terminate a lighting circuit which includes Maintained and Non Maintained emergency light fittings and carry out testing and function checking, all work to comply with the regulations and recognised industry practices.

The candidate must install the lighting circuit to include a minimum of one maintained and one Non-maintained emergency light fitting. The designed test area must have good lighting and be away from any production area. The Examiner must ensure that the candidates have completed the installation and tests to specification and following established working practice.

The Examiner must supply the necessary equipment required for the installation no drawing shall be provided by the examiner other than a simple layout drawing, the candidate is expected to arrange the termination of the circuit following recognised industry practices.

The candidate is expected to complete the test, being observed using correct installation, termination, testing and function checking techniques, to produce the lighting circuit and apply safe working practices to achieve a ‘PASS’. Where the candidate does not achieve the set criteria this is recorded as ‘REFERRED’ and a brief note recorded on the criteria not met in the test activity.

The candidate must record a PASS in all practical test sections and score a minimum of 80% in the multiple choice section.

CANDIDATE INSTRUCTIONS

Practical Test – The candidate is required to install a lighting circuit to include Maintained and Nonmaintained emergency light fittings, test and function check. All work to comply with the regulations.

Follow the stages indicated below:

1. Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
2. Prepare the work areas so that they are ready for the engineering activities to be carried out
3. Obtain all the required equipment and ensure that it is in safe and usable condition
4. Obtain the required materials and check them for quantity and quality
5. Carry out the preparations using suitable equipment
6. Work within a safe system of work and identify any foreseeable hazards relating to the connection of wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
7. Accurately identify the means of electrical isolation prior to connection
8. Carry out isolation procedures when required, to ensure a safe connection in accordance with electrical regulations and approved procedures
9. Make connections in accordance with specifications and comply with wiring regulations as specified in the most recent local standards for electrical installations
10. Check the connections are electrically and mechanically sound, and ensure that they are identified correctly and clearly
11. Take safe and sensible action, where appropriate to remedy any identified defects after connection has taken place
12. Complete any necessary documentation about the work legibly, accurately and timely in accordance with organisationalrequirements.
13. Confirm that his/her test instruments are: appropriate to the job in hand, fit for purpose and in calibration
14. Conduct an inspection in accordance with the wiring regulations in the local standards for electrical installations
15. Conduct the required tests in accordance with wiring regulations as specified in the most recent local standards for electrical installations and in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions
16. Prepare a formal record of testing which confirms the safety and integrity of the installation, in accordance with organisational procedures and wiring regulations as specified in the local standards for electrical installations
17. Separate equipment, components, and materials for reuse from waste items and materials
18. Dispose of waste materials in line with organisational and environmental safe procedures
19. Restore the work areas to a safe condition in accordance with agreed requirements and schedules.
